Resilience is Your Oyster
Pearls of Wisdom in response to February prompt
Tenacity and resilience are words spoken to me over my lifetime when I share my stories. Other words like warrior, survivor, fighter, courage and roar like a lion have also been tossed my way. I have never looked at it like that. I see nothing special or courageous about how I have lived my life. It is just what it is. Perhaps that is why I can keep going.
I watched the other women in my family, particularly my grandma and my mom. They were strong, yet kind, generous, and loving women. Putting others first before themselves and did whatever it took to support the family. Family meant everything. Another thing that perhaps kept me going is my creativity and being told my name comes from being my mom’s jewel.
Looking at the definition of resilience it reminds me of the word grit. Resilience is the ability to recover quickly or bounce back from difficulties. Grit is courage and resolve; strength of character, but also defined as loose particles of sand or stone. Resilience is the ability to see things differently.
