I began the study of mindfulness through Jon Kabat-Zinn. I appreciate the thoroughness of the Buddhist definitions here, as I enjoy studying those teachings also. The non judgment part brings the compassion to our awareness of our past beliefs to change our present moment actions and reactions. Meditation is a tool of mindfulness, and in many trauma survivors, it is a trigger, so the Jon Kabat-Zinn way, if you focus on non-judgement regarding awareness to your thought naturally brings you to present moments.
